Use the Trail: Mustang to USA Parkway
Due to extensive flood damage, the trail is not passable from Mustang to Tracy Power Plant. For updated information and expected opening date, contact the Nature Conservancy at 322-4990.
The trail along the river from Mustang to USA Parkway (also called Clark on some maps) has been recently opened with help from The Nature Conservancy, BLM, NV Energy and Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. It is 10 miles of mostly flat dirt trail (soft in some places between Mustang and Waltham Way). IMPORTANT: Please read this before riding! Additionally, a GPS track can be found here (this also includes an optional out and back into the hills south of the river on USA Parkway).
SPECIAL ROUTE NOTE: The trail east of Tracy Power Plant is temporarily closed for construction. Please use the frontage road to travel east to USA Parkway. For trail users heading downstream from Mustang, when you get to the new bridge at McCarran Ranch (about 2 miles), be sure to cross the bridge and then IMMEDIATELY turn left onto the single track trail (right at the end of the bridge guard rail). Please do not continue south on the dirt road.
From Tracy Power Plant eastward, there is an optional, slightly hilly, paved loop on the south side of the river, following USA Parkway and Waltham Way (see map). Another possible ride extension is out-and-back on USA Parkway, which is 9 miles of an approximately 1200-foot climb to the south. As of 2012, there is no connectivity from Sparks to Mustang except I-80, due to objections in Storey County.
There are very few services in this area. There is no camping or lodging in this area.
